Closing Ceremony of the Democracy School for Youth in Iraq June 19, 2021 - Baghdad


Women Empowerment Organization celebrated the graduation of elite young leaders within the “Democracy Education for Youth in Iraq” program and honored them as Democracy Ambassadors,, in the presence of the Dutch ambassador in Iraq, the diplomatic corps, advisors, officials, representatives of international organizations, and the Deputy Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, followed by an informal political lunch with the young leaders alumni and a number of political and parliamentary figures to open channels of dialogue and to highlight the political experiences in Iraq and their role in empowering youth in various fields, including their political and civil rights.

During January – June, Women Empowerment Organization (WEO) in partnership with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) implemented a pilot project on democracy education for youth in Iraq funded by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Iraq and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). The project focused on building the capacities of the participants in (political systems, principles of institutional organization, rights and freedoms, democratic skills), to build an effective and influential youth group in their communities, and to highlight the pioneering role of youth in building a democratic country based on respecting the law and social justice.
