As part of the Open Iraq Initiative (OII) project, Internews, in partnership with Women Empowerment Organization, organized a two-day consultation session in Erbil on the gender response budgeting. The meeting was attended by the Iraqi and KRG officials, members of Iraqi and Kurdistan parliaments, advisers to the president and prime minister of Iraq, as well as several representatives of civil society organizations.
During the session, seminars were held on the necessary details to understand gender-responsive budgeting. Then several data-supported reports that were produced within the project were presented and the problems facing the gender response budgeting were highlighted. The main purpose of the meeting was to present recommendations for these problems. After an intensive discussion with the participants, several suggestions were prepared as recommendations. The recommendations will be shared with the relevant parties in both the Iraqi and Kurdistan Regional Government. Later, the participants of the meeting will follow up on the implementation of the developed recommendations.
